Small, well kept, close to the beach. Clean and tidy. Suits “Nomads”; no playground, no ball games, no pool, no bike riding etc.
7 Oct 10, Mallala Sports Ground, Camps 5/312, 1 night @ $0.00, Stay Again- Maybe
Free camp area within the sports ground. Camping area some distance from the toilets otherwise OK.
8 Oct 10, Balaklava Caravan Park, Camps 5/318, 1 night @ $21.00, Stay Again- Yes
Small, clean and tidy. Swimming pool and playground nearby. Caretaker on call. Walk to shops.
Neat and tidy, walk to the shops, pool next door. Small playground, next to oval. Some freeway noise.
10 Nov 10, Burra Creek Gorge, Camps5/287, 1 night @ $0.00, Stay Again- Yes Free camp area on the banks of the Burra Creek. Plenty of camping sites, easy access, suitable for all size vehicles. Drop toilets, Quiet, plenty of birdlife. Usually a donation, but couldn’t find the donation box.
Neat and tidy, walk to shops. Some traffic noise. Next to swimming pool, no playground.
Small park, all drive through sites, clean and tidy. Mini golf and swimming pool nearby. Playground at nearby school. Quiet with a rural outlook.
14 Nov 10, Melrose Showgrounds, Camps 5/356, 2 nights @ $15.00, Stay Again- Yes
Lots of space. Toilets and showers available. Quiet, 2 klm from town, minimal road noise, caretaker on site.
16 Nov 10, White Cliffs Res Koolunga, Camps 5/324, 1 Night @ $0.00, Stay Again - Yes Free camp area on the banks of the Broughton River 6 Klm from Koolunga on gravel road. Toilet, BBQ, bin, seat. Very quiet during the week; can be noisy at weekends during summer apparently. Only a couple of spots for larger vehicles; more suited to camper trailers etc.
Free camp area beside the “ferry terminal”. Toilets, BBQ, Shelter Shed with table and chairs, dog friendly. Plenty of space, plenty of grass and views of the lake. Some noise from the ferry. No facilities at Narrung.
Bush camping area just back from the foreshore, toilets, cold showers; hot showers are available in the caravan park proper. Controlled by the Southend-on-Sea Tourist Park. Well worn track through the area; makes maneuvering around a little tricky. Big rigs will fit OK but probably better suited to camper trailers and the like.
Well off the beaten track. Part of the Mt Schank Walking Trail. Toilets, enough room for a couple of big rigs plus other campers etc. Shade, table/seat, BBQ and shelter shed.
10 Klm from Portland, off the highway, quiet, well grassed, some shade, close to beach and river, near tennis courts and playground.
Small council park next to playground and gardens/park. Free use of washing machines, fee for dryer. Main street shops can be reached on foot; basic needs available.
Small park across the road from the foreshore of the Lake. Shade, power and water. Small children’s play area; swimming pool a short distance away.
Several large sites, toilet, shelter, water etc. Some road distant road noise. Would have been sensational if closer to and in view of the falls. Now only overnight stay.
Large area on the edge of the Rocklands Reservoir, toilets etc. Last hundred metres or so of gravel roadway was terribly corrugated. Not well signposted from the main highways. Well away from passing traffic.
Well set up quiet area on the outskirts of town on the banks of the Glenelg River. Power, water, playground, walk to town, picnic and walking areas, showers, toilets and laundry. Probably the best low cost/free spot we’ve stayed in.
On the edge of the lake, large area, toilets, showers, water and power. Maybe a bit overpriced for the standard offered, particularly when compared with Harrow.
Unique setup, sort of up market bush camp. Some power, showers, toilets, shade, water, large area. Well signposted. Expected/imagined more “bush”.
Top spot with plenty of space and plenty of shade. Toilet, tables and seats, bins. Road noise more noticeable at night.
Small to medium sized park, plenty of grassed areas, clean amenities, walk to beach and shops. On main Victor Harbor to Goolwa Road so some road noise, and plenty of noise from the rough sea.
Neat area behind
a church, clean toilets, water, table and seats, rain water. Quiet and not much traffic.
Right on the
beach front, large site (last one) in a small park, clean and tidy, well
maintained.
6 Mar
11, Marion Bay Caravan Park 1 Night @ $22.50, Stay Again – Yes
Well laid out,
plenty of shade, very close to the beach.
Has all the necessary bits and pieces, clean and tidy, quiet. Jagged a drive through site so we didn’t have
to unhook; plenty of empty sites. Probably the best park we’ve stayed in to
date; definitely come again.
Compact, well
maintained, clean and tidy, busy and nearly full, opposite the beach, large
site didn’t need to un hook. A lot of regulars. The only downside was the low water pressure.
8 Mar
11, Maitland Rest Area SA Camps5/399, 1 Night @ $0.00, Stay Again – Yes
Opposite hospital and next to the oval. Toilets, water, shade, table & seats. Walk to shops. Small area; fit a couple of vans and 1 or 2 campers. On main road into town, so some traffic noise.
Opposite hospital and next to the oval. Toilets, water, shade, table & seats. Walk to shops. Small area; fit a couple of vans and 1 or 2 campers. On main road into town, so some traffic noise.
Neat set up with
toilets, shade, tables & seats. Plenty of room for at least 5 or 6 decent
set ups. Right on main highway, large transport noise can be an issue at times.
Well lit at night.
Large park on
the outskirts of town, plenty of room, very little road noise, near airport.
Needs a little more maintenance attention and some updating, otherwise
functional and had all the necessary amenities.
Right in town,
walk to the shop, well maintained, clean and tidy, helpful staff, quiet.
On the foreshore
of Boston Bay, very large park, refurbished area with concreted drive through
sites. Clean and tidy, well maintained.
All the necessary amenities. Very windy for most of our stay; unusual for that
time of year.
Compact, clean
and tidy, walk to shops. Helpful staff,
pleasant stay, quiet night.
Part of the Top
Tourist chain, just back from the river bank, grassed or gravel sites, clean
and tidy ablution blocks, well maintained, very enjoyable. Might be a bit
hectic during peak times.
On the
foreshore, well grassed, plenty of shade, drive through sites, well maintained,
neat and tidy. Only drawback was the birdlife that didn’t shut up for the
entire stay. Apart from that, very good.
In the main
street opposite the hotel and next to the railway line. Very neat and tidy
toilets and shower. Background transport noise. Area would be boggy when wet.
Plenty of room for all size rigs. Well
lit shelter with tables and chairs. Rain water available.
On the banks of
the Edward river, secluded, clean and tidy, drive through sites, TV
connection. Older amenities block a bit
dated, but nonetheless clean, tidy and functionable. Evening and morning
birdlife serenades. Park mostly “Annuals”
but apart from the relieving staff, we were the only others in the park.
Due to the Show
at the weekend we were relegated to a back area of the showgrounds; still had
water and power but the toilets weren’t as flash as the main ones are, but they were
fit for purpose nonetheless. Lots of
space, away from everything and very quiet at night. Only two other campers here on the first
night.
Large grassed area, power and water, toilets
with showers, only one other van there both nights. Quiet with some distant
traffic noise and the odd train. The only problem was a swooping magpie.
Clean
and tidy park, assisted parking, right on river bank, but no access. Road noise.
Would stay again if no cheaper option.
Plenty
of space, power and water, showers and toilets, dated but clean and tidy and
functionable. Road noise. Close to CBD.
Small,
neat and tidy, some shade but a little
open to the elements, backs onto golf course and next to the tennis
courts. Very quiet.
Medium
sized park, power and water, toilets/showers etc dated but clean and tidy. Camp kitchen.
Road /rail noise.
